SOS for kind volunteers to collect for Hitchin Shopmobility in Hitchin Sainsburys, on Friday July 16th or Saturday 17th, anytime between 9.00am and 5.30 pm. Just an hour or so would be much appreciated to
help this small stand-alone scheme to continue its mobility scooters short loan service, enabling those with walking difficulties to access Hitchin’s shops and facilities. Please see Ann Norman, telephone Hitchin 434778 or email: annwheels@btinternet.com
Party in the Park: Thank you so much to everyone who gave their time in whatever way - staffing stalls, preparing displays, making cakes, serving refreshments, providing music, telling Bible stories etc - for Party in the Park. It was tremendously successful at bringing our church witness outside, not only to show the public what we do but also each other. The entertainment drew people of all ages especially the teens who meet in the park each Saturday. The park was alive and buzzing with the Christian message. Well done to all who contributed in any way. Helen Richardson, Chair, Churches Together in Hitchin
Appeal for Stewards: Owing to retirement, we are short of stewards for the 12.30 to 2.30pm slot on the first Friday of each month. If you - better still, you and a partner - would like to fill this position please will you call me, David Ockendon, on 01462 615263. The job is not demanding: together with one or more partners, all you are asked to do is keep an eye on the church at a time when it is open to the public, and welcome visitors.
St Mary’s Summer Fair: Many thanks to all who helped and donated items to contribute to the success of our summer fair on Saturday 26th June. We raised a total of £1775. Audrey, Helen & Joanna
BRAND NEW MUSIC TRAIN ARRIVING AT ST MARY’S CHURCH
On his recent sabbatical in a New York Church Michael, the Team Rector, noticed that music education began at a very early age and was keen to bring this idea to the parish here. As a result we are delighted to announce that St Mary’s is extending its music provision to include children aged 2-7 years. Two new groups are starting in September 2010.
The Music Train at St Mary’s
Aged 2-rising 5’s in which children will learn about pitch, rhythm and tuneful singing with a variety of themed music topics including, string, brass, keyboard, woodwind and percussion instruments. They will also be guided in preparation for instrument learning. Mondays at 1.30pm in Church House. Contact: Ros Woodin 01462 453187 ros.woodin@musictrain.co.uk
St Mary’s Training Choir
Aged 5-7 years. Childrens’ music making will be further extended with the focus predominantly on singing games and performance. It is hoped that this choir will take part in the new All Ages Communion Services once a month. Tuesdays 4.30-5.15 in St Mary’s Church. Contact: Ros Woodin 01462 453187 ros.woodin@musictrain.co.uk
The Music Train and Training Choir classes will cost £45.00 per term (10 sessions at £4.50) for the first child with a reduction for siblings. There will be reductions for those experiencing hardship as we want every child to feel able to take part.
St Mary’s Church Choir
Aged 7 years and upwards. Following on from St Mary’s Training Choir children then have to option to join the full Church Choir having already got a wealth of music experience under their belt. However, children with no previous music experience are also welcome to join. This Choir provides a wonderful free music education and even has the advantage of providing a little extra pocket money for choristers! Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings in St Mary’s: Girls 5.30 – 6.30pm, Boys 6.30 – 7.30pm.
Opportunities also exist for adults to sing at St Mary’s. Contact: Alan Childs Tel: 01462 816244 email a.j.childs@btinternet.com - Places are limited so please register early!
