St Mary’s - ancient …and modern
Having been around for over a thousand years, St Mary’s has had time to learn how to bring a message in a fresh way to a changing culture. We aim to be both true to our faith and alive to the concerns of 21st century people.
St. Mary’s offers a mixture of traditional and modern services. For young children and parents we have the Storyteller Service ‘an informal service for an age group that behaves informally’. During the 30 minute service we tell a bible story, sing songs with a small string and brass band and say a prayer or two. This is always on the first Sunday of the month at 11.15 am.
Our main service is at 9.35 am every Sunday. This Communion service is a good opportunity to relax for an hour, enjoy some wonderful music, sing your heart out, hear a hopeful message and bring your cares to God. During the service there is a jolly Sunday school called ‘Seekers’ (they made the banners on the tower) and a creche – should it be needed.
On Sunday evenings we have the traditional and beautiful service of Evensong at 6.30 pm sung by our choir. The choir offers a free musical education to boy and girl choristers from 7-18 years old.
