                                                     2nd Hitchin Brownies

The Brownies in 2005

We have as usual a very busy year. Activities have included a Pack Holiday in April at Wymondley Woods, a trip to Pots of Art where we decorated mugs and plates as an end of term treat, and entering in Girl Guiding Hitchin East’s arts and crafts challenge, where our girls won several certificates. We ran a couple of stalls at the summer fair, with the help of some parents. We were worried in the summer by the clash of girls choir practice with Brownies, but managed to find a compromise solution which means girls can attend both without missing too much of either, and now have several girls doing just that, and we enjoyed hearing them sing when we attended the Christingle service.  We have worked on several badges over the year, and had lots of fun together learning more about ourselves, our community and our world.

What we've been doing in 2004

We have had a very busy year. Activities have included a Pack Holiday in April at Windy Sayles, Whipsnade which included a trip to the zoo, attending Brownie Olympics at Wymondley Wood, working on several badges, including Environment and Seasons. We ran a couple of stalls at the Christmas fair, and some of the girls helped clear tables. We have attended several all age services, including the Christingle service which was very popular – not only were the girls encouraged to play with their torches, (not allowed by Brown Owl in dormitories at bedtime) but they were given sweets and a candle to play with. Some of us also helped with the preparation of the Christingles the day before, and handed out the service booklets. We were very pleased to welcome Pauline Hinks to one of our recent meetings where she helped the girls to make some beautiful cards for Mothering Sunday.  We have suffered a drop in numbers of girls due to several moving to other packs for various reasons, but word is getting around that we have spaces and numbers are picking up nicely.  We are also very pleased to have a new Young Leader – Helen, who is settling in, and starting to work on various projects to gain her certificate.
